Fleeting happiness

Her face lit up when she saw his text come in, like a child anticipating her present.
She tried to keep her cool and wits about her as she waited for the text to load.
It wasn’t anything much, just a very short ‘I missed you too’ and her heart felt like it was about to burst with happiness.

It was a moment of fleeting happiness when she reminded herself that it did not mean anything to him.
They were just words, words he used ever so often on all his lovers.
They were just words that never meant translated into anything concrete.
